Welcome to the official website of the Muslim Students' Society of Nigeria (MSSN), Minna Area Council. This website has been developed to provide first-hand information about MSSN Minna Area Council.
The Muslim Students’ Society of Nigeria popularly referred to as MSSN was established on April 18th, 1954 and was officially launched at the Ansarudeen Alakoro School Masjid, Lagos on 30th May 1954 amidst prayer, joy and exhortation. The noble struggle of this antecedents was traced to the effort of the triumvirate of Tajudeen Adisa Aromoshodu, Sumola Akin Luguda and Abdurrahman Alade Sahid of the then Methodist Boy High School, Lagos.
The idea of setting up an organisation for Muslim students was born out of Muslims’ desires to safeguard their religious fundamentals, culture and identity from the twin effects of forceful evangelization and alluring Christian activities. As such, Muslim students had to study under the tutelage of Christian missionary society schools. The prevalent situation at that time necessitated Muslims to study under a very hostile environment where some of those students were reported to have changed their religion. Others who were steadfast and were willing to pursue their academic activities were forced to change their names.
The Society’s structure is pyramidal, starting with the Board of Trustees (BOT), National Executive Council/National Working Committee, Zonal Coordinators: ‘A’ and ‘B’, Area Units, Area Councils and the Branches (schools).
In line with the above, the Muslim Students’ Society of Nigeria, Minna Area Council is one of the seventeen (17) Area Councils in Niger State Area Unit created since 1976 and nurtured by our founding fathers the like of Brother Umar Larat Aliyu... However, for the effective administration of the Council that has over sixty (60) branches, it has been divided into ten (10) zones headed by a Zonal Coordinator. The Council was saddled with the responsibility of spearheading the activities of both public and private schools in Minna, higher institutions inclusive.
